At a local business I visited this week asked me this question as I checked out. Of course I found them using Google and visiting their site. But their question made me realize that had a static website that is costing them money every month with no return on their investment! They had no idea how many people visited their site, where their traffic came from, or what visitors did when then arrived on their site. They relied on a customer to arrive in the front door and hope they accurately tell them how the transactions originated.
Not only are they losing money on their website, they lose the long tail on the life of the customer. all of our customers have a relationship with us after their first transaction. during the life of the relationship the customer may spend more money with us. The longer the relationship the better chance of another transaction. But this business let me leave without getting me contact information thus ending the relationship.
Now they are off to acquire a very expensive next customer!
